UQ’s studio contact, Paul, was asked what his overall goal was for this project. His goals were to construct a multipurpose area where students can be taught studio functions, but also a place where they could record and livestream lectures. Videopro’s main objective is to find out what the customer wants and then come up with a design that best suits what they are looking to do.
To start the process, a meeting is set up with the client to discuss their vision. In this case, UQ’s studio contact, Paul, was asked what his overall goal was for this project. His goals were to construct a multipurpose area where students can be taught studio functions, but also a place where they could record and livestream lectures. Videopro’s main objective is to find out what the customer wants and then come up with a design that best suits what they are looking to do.
Paul had very little tech knowledge coming into this project, but was guided all the way through from start to finish by Videopro. Wayne, Videopro’s Senior Account Manager, designed a system to suit the requirements including drawings as to how everything would work together, through another site meeting these ideas were reviewed, and any questions Paul had about the setup were answered and explained so that Paul would understand how everything was going to look and work together.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ option with Videopro. They tailor the equipment and room to the needs of the client. For this project, the roof was recessed so that the lighting could be added at the appropriate height and a window was added to the main control room to give users a full view of the studio. A teleprompter was added to the mobile studio camera which allows for the presenters to talk directly into the camera while reading their presentation, this wasn’t part of the original vision, but according to Paul, was a welcome addition. Often the client gets more functionality than they expect once they see how everything fits together.
Videopro manage the full construction process, right from the beginning with the project managers, architects, engineers, builders, and installers as well as offering continued ongoing support post installation. Paul mentioned that he was extremely satisfied with the full process, including the efficiency of setting up the AV equipment which only took 2 days once the builders finished modifying the room.
Paul mentioned that one of the best features of this studio was its ease of use for people with little to no tech experience. He was very impressed that the equipment can be used by one operator or a team of people and the extended 20 meter cable for the studio floor camera and teleprompter allows for filming outside the main studio area. The best part of this system for Paul and the team at UQ, was the studio came in under their proposed design budget. Paul also mentioned that this is UQ’s most professional studio set up and the only one with a complete custom build.
Videopro offer ongoing support for any questions and problems post installation. Wayne and Rob set up a meeting with Paul one week after the completion of the project to go over any issues they had with the setup. They also ran through how the control systems worked to give Paul a better understanding of how to correctly use the equipment. The Videopro guys were on-site for two hours to make sure Paul was completely satisfied and that everything was in perfect working order.
UQ had an already established relationship with Videopro through previously purchasing AV equipment, and through a discussion with Rob Dew, Product Account Manager, learned about Videopro’s ability to custom create a studio for any business to suit their budget.
