The Gap State High School
With the population in the area increasing rapidly, The Gap SHS is consistently seeking new innovative ways to provide a better schooling environment. The opening of their new Sports Complex promoted the initiative to implement new digital scoreboards for each of their three basketball courts.
Founded in 1960, The Gap State High School has progressed from just 7 staff members to now employing approximately 110 teaching and non-teaching staff. The Gap SHS provides a co-educational environment founded on sound, innovative and research based teaching practices and is dedicated to creating a better future for students and staff.
With the population in the area increasing rapidly, The Gap SHS is consistently seeking new innovative ways to provide a better schooling environment.
The opening of their new Sports Complex promoted the initiative to implement new digital scoreboards for each of their three basketball courts. The objective was to create an exciting, effective and efficient way for the school and external community to operate the new complex.
3 x 70” LCD Panels mounted at the end of each basketball court. These in addition to Apple TV wireless streaming devices are contained within protective enclosures. Three iPads were then equipped to create a ‘mobile scoring system’ via an application which communicates with each LCD, providing mobility for the referees on each court. Control of the LCD panels is achieved via an 8 button AMX keypad, with additional input plates supplied to allow for laptop connectivity.
Each basketball court is fitted with speaker enclosures that may operate independently or in a combined mode, with volume and source control accomplished through the use of the iPads. With the touch of a button the microphones, audio and visual components can each be customised, providing mobility for the entire system.
On the second floor a Hitachi 65” interactive LCD was mounted outside of the lift-well to service as an interactive display device for PE lessons and ‘Game Plan’ solutions. Whilst this solution includes the ability to connect an external laptop; the onboard PC provides a ‘stand alone’ solution.
The Manager’s Office is fitted with a 40” LCD and an additional 40” LCD was placed outside the office within a protective enclosure. Laptop connection plates are available at each of these LCD panels with signals fed from one to the other, allowing for individual or combined operation.
Simple interfaces and calculated design combine to demonstrate the seamless integration of a cutting edge audio visual solution. Richard James - Teacher at the Gap SHS, said of the project “We had ideas of what we wanted, Videopro worked with us on solutions and the results are better than we thought possible.”
