Ramsay Health Care
Ramsay Health Care at Greenslopes Private Hospital engaged Videopro to deliver a digital imaging platform system in one of their main operating theatres. This ground-breaking Australian first was designed in late 2019 and delivered during what turned out to be the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic during 2020.
With border closures and delayed procurement timelines hampering the delivery of the project, the completion date was definite as one of the first surgeries to be performed was to be broadcast live across the globe.
The Sony NUCLeuS system’s broadcasting capabilities were utilised for a world surgical event called 24H ‘LE MANS’ SHOULDER - 24hr non-stop shoulder surgical procedures. The event included 18 live surgical streams from experts across the world in France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, China, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and Italy. Videopro supported the live event within the operating theatre to ensure a smooth broadcast.
The system design incorporated an intuitive interface that is accessed via a touch screen, allowing clinical staff to route video from any source to any destination and display information on surgical monitors and large displays within the operating room.
This IP based system is designed to manage 4K video, still images and other patient data and is capable of sharing live surgeries to colleagues, other doctors or surgeons anywhere in the world. All information is recorded allowing captured content to be associated with other patient records and can be accessed anywhere on the hospital wide IP network for secondary use e.g. consultations, conferences and educational purposes.
The multiple video feeds from endoscopes, surgical microscopes, C-Arms, room cameras, ultrasound, anaesthesia systems and other sources can be recorded simultaneously in any combination of formats and resolutions. The Sony NUCLeUS also offers simple video editing functions as a part of the workflow, with no need for external editing software or specialist editing skills.
This versatile system is not restricted to operating theatres and can be applied in other spaces including catheterization labs, pathology labs, classrooms, lecture halls, physician offices or anywhere across the hospital environment.
